Core Guidelines
Follow these principles to be a valued member of our community.
Be Respectful & Courteous
Treat all community members with respect and professionalism.

Honest & Transparent Dealings
Maintain integrity in all your transactions and interactions.

- ✓Be honest about your experience level with tools
- ✓Report damage or issues immediately
- ✓Don't misrepresent tool condition or capabilities
Safety First
Prioritize safety for yourself and others in the community.
- ✓Follow all safety guidelines and manufacturer instructions
- ✓Only list tools that are safe and in good working condition
- ✓Report any safety concerns immediately
- ✓Don't rent tools for purposes they weren't designed for
- ✓Ensure proper training before using unfamiliar equipment
Quality Standards
Maintain high standards for tools and services on the platform.

- ✓Return tools in the same condition you received them
- ✓Test equipment before listing or renting
- ✓Include all necessary accessories and instructions
- ✓Respond promptly to inquiries and messages
Prohibited Activities
The following activities are strictly prohibited on handi and may result in account suspension or termination.
Equipment that can’t be listed
Some equipment needs an operator qualification, a documented inspection history, or insurance that a peer-to-peer hire can’t provide. Listings for these are refused automatically.
Plant machinery
Plant machinery needs a trained operator (CPCS/NPORS), plant insurance and trailer transport, none of which we can verify.
For example: excavator, fork lift, mini digger, skid steer, telehandler
Towers and powered access
Towers and powered access need competent assembly or an operator ticket, and a failure is catastrophic rather than gradual.
For example: cherry picker, passenger hoist, scaffold tower, scaffolding, scissor lift
Props and shoring
Props and shoring are structural engineering — a mis-set prop can collapse a wall onto someone.
For example: acrow, needle prop, shoring, strongboy
Heavy breaking and chipping
Breakers and grinders of this class carry serious vibration and projectile risk beyond what a peer-to-peer handover can cover.
For example: chipper shredder, jackhammer, road breaker, stump grinder, wood chipper
Equipment needing a competence ticket
This equipment needs a recognised competence certificate in practice, and injuries from it are severe and immediate.
For example: chainsaw, cut-off saw, disc cutter
Life-safety equipment
Life-safety equipment can only be trusted with documented inspection history, which a private owner cannot evidence.
For example: climbing harness, fall arrest
Anything towed on the road
Anything towed on the public road brings roadworthiness and licence-category duties we cannot check.
For example: tow bar, tow dolly, towbar, trailer
Regulated substances
Handling or disposal of this is legally restricted and needs a licensed carrier.
For example: asbestos, calor gas, propane cylinder
This isn’t an exhaustive list. If you’re unsure whether something can be hired out, ask us before listing it.
How we treat higher-risk tools
Every category sits in one of two groups. The group decides what we ask of you when you list, and what evidence both sides capture at handover.
Standard tools
Hand tools, measuring equipment and passive site kit. Nothing extra to complete — list them as normal.

Higher-risk tools
Powered, fuelled, pressurised or used at height. Before one of these goes live you’ll confirm a short set of safety checks specific to the hazard, and for corded tools add a photo of the plug and cable.
- Corded: cable, plug and casing undamaged; guards and kill-switch working; unmodified.
- Petrol, diesel or gas: fuel state agreed, no leaks, and never run in an enclosed space — exhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide.
- Ladders and steps: stiles, rungs and feet undamaged, used within the rated load.

List it in the right category
The category you choose decides which safety checks apply and what evidence is captured at handover. Listing a tool under a category that doesn’t match it means those checks never happen — so a miscategorised listing isn’t eligible for handi Protect if something goes wrong.
Consequences of Violations
We take violations of our guidelines seriously to protect our community. Please note that while we generally follow a graduated process, handi reserves the right to suspend or terminate any account immediately and without prior notice at our sole discretion.
Warning
First-time minor violations may result in a formal warning.
Temporary Suspension
Repeated violations or moderate offenses may lead to account suspension.
Permanent Ban
Serious violations, fraud, or repeated offenses will result in permanent removal.
Legal Action
Criminal activity or serious violations may be reported to authorities.
Report Violations
If you witness behavior that violates our community guidelines, please report it immediately. All reports are reviewed promptly and kept confidential.
